School Dinners

As you are aware, the government are introducing free school dinners for all the infant children who are in the Reception classes, Year 1 and Year 2 from September 2014. I’m sure you will agree that this is an excellent idea however it does present two major problems which we need to overcome.

Firstly – the funding schools receive depends upon how many children are registered for free school meals. Therefore it is vitally important that you register for free school meals, even if your child is getting one automatically from September.

Secondly – the number of children having a school dinner next year will increase significantly, therefore we may need to change the school day so that Reception children have an earlier lunchtime.

I will keep you informed about what we are going to do to make this work. But in the meantime if your child is not registered for free school meals, especially if they are starting school in September, will you please contact our office who will guide you through the process of registering.
